The Cargin under-14 camogs are bound for Galway this week-end as they anticipate the clubs first ever appearance in the ‘John West Féile na nGael’ competition.

The Cargin club are in their infancy being formed at juvenile level by several enthusiastic individuals in 2008 and this particular group of girls were the first to claim silverware being successful in both their u-12 and u-14 league campaigns last in 2017.

The Toome based club sited on the north eastern corner of Lough Neagh on the banks of the river Bann have reaped the rewards for their endeavours, and the hard work of their coaching staff.

The youngsters in a club which has not a long tradition in Camogie were most certainly encouraged by the exploits of their seniors side when after only a few years in existence they claimed both county and provincial championship titles in 2016.

The successful under-14s certainly proved their worth having to overcome both St. Endas and Rossa in the county group stages of Feile before narrowly against Cuchulain’s Dunloy. They took their place in the Shield where they gained a great win over Brídíní Óga to book an appearance in the final against near neighbours Creggan.

Their keenest rivals proved a difficult hurdle to cross but in the event the Cargin girls gained the day to book their place on the National stage.

The girls now head to their host club Ballinsloe, Galway on Friday 8th June to represent club and county and they will be giving their all for club and county.
