Eamon McNeill who was in fine form for Rasharkin as the y defeated Shane O’Neill’s today
O’Neill’s ACHL Division 3
St Mary’s Rasharkin 4-18 Shane O’Neill’s 0-12
Shane O’Neill’s, who have been struggling this season through the unavailability of players coupled with injuries travelled to face a Rasharkin team who have been going well this term under the guidance of former Ballycastle and Antrim player Paul McKillen.
Despite the visitors taking an early lead it was Rasharkin who hit back with a goal and a point from Eamon McNeill, the goal coming following a great diagonal pass from Conor McKeever. The home side never looked back with Conor McKeever adding a second goal in the 7th minute though Glenarm kept battling away
It was Rasharkin’s open and fast play in opening stages that secured this victory however. The quality of the ball into their forward line opened up their opponents defence time and again. Eamon McNeill was a real thorn in the sides of the Feystown side and he soloed through for his second and his sides third goal to put them in complete control.
The Dreen men continued to press and the scores came thick and fast as Kealan Darragh and Conor McKeever pointed before McNeill and McKeever combined for goal number four. By half time they had put the contest well out of the reach of their opponents with McNeill and Daniel Hasson pointing to leave the half time score 4-7 to 0-8.
McKeever fired over a couple of points on the restart and Daniel Hasson added another after 15 minutes with Glenarm keeping the scoreboard ticking over with some fine points of their own without ever really looking to get back into contention.
As the visitors tired under the relentless pressure a further three points from Eamon McNeill, a great long range effort from Thomas McMullan and a similar effort from Shane Hasson saw the men from Dreen coast home to a 15 point victory.
In what was a great overall team performance for the home side, Shane Hasson had a very good hour at half back, Thomas McMullan very strong at midfield and up front Conor McKeever and Eamon McNeill stood out.
Spare a thought for the visitors however. They arrived with only 15 players and then lost a player early in the second half through injury. They are certainly capable of much better than they are producing at present but come the Championship and with a full quota of players available I believe they can be a force to be reckoned with. We wish a speedy recovery to the player who picked up a serious shoulder injury in the second half.
