Kevin McAllister was in fine form for Dunloy as they edged out St. Paul’s on the Glen Road on Wednesday night.

ACFL Division 2

St. Paul’s 3-9 Dunloy 4-7

When your team is sitting near the bottom of the league you could be forgiven for thinking lady luck is not on your side and after throwing away a one point lead late in the game in Ballymena last time out St. Paul’s came mighty close again but in the end lost by a single point to a Dunloy team who are beginning to run into a bit of form.

The game was switched from Shaw’s Road to St. Mary’s CBS on the Glen Road where both sides served up a good game of football and the result was  in the balance right up to the final whistle. On the expansive swards of the St. Mary’s pitch it was St. Paul’s who edged first half proceedings to lead by 3-4 to 3-2 as the goals came thick and fast.

Karl Fitzpatrick and Kevin McAllister got the visitors on their way with early goals but St. Paul’s responded with a couple themselves, Liam McLarnon scoring the pick of them. A Shane Dooey goal mid-way through the half edged Dunloy ahead after being set up by Conal Cunning but the visitors battled hard to close the gap with Aaron Burns to the fore but time beat them in the end.

This was a good Dunloy performance with Kevin McQuillan at midfield and  Karl Fitzpatrick at centre half forward both in outstanding form. The Cuchullain’s will now welcome back their county hurlers, Woody McKinley, Eoin O’Neill, Kealan Molloy, Nigel Elliott and Ryan Elliott and will be strong contenders for the Intermediate Championship. As they continue to climb up the league  table they seem to be running into form just at the right time.

Spare a thought for St. Paul’s. They have lost five games by just a single point and drawn at All Saints and will be hoping for a change of fortune in the coming weeks. Aaron Burns was perhaps their best performer on the night but was one who missed a few chances on the evening.
