O’Neill’s All County Hurling League Division 3
Cushendun 2-22 Glenarm 1-13
Cushendun qualified for the top six in Division 3 of the All County Hurling League when they recovered from a bad start to beat Glenarm in Sunday’s league game in Cushendun. This was a must win game for the Emmet’s but when Glenarm started like a steam train they appeared to be in a bit of bother. Conleth Ward opened the visitors’ account with a point in the opening minute and when Dylan McLaughlin added two points from play, followed by a fifth minute goal the men from Feystown were in a strong position. David Kilgore got the Emmet’s up and running with a point in the sixth minute and when Conlaoth McNeill, Conor McHugh and Pearse Bannon added points things looked a bit brighter for the home side. Dylan McLaughlin pointed again for Glenarm to put the gap out to three and though Eoin McQuillan replied for the Emmet’s a Barry Hamill point restored Glenarm’s three point advantage.
Conor Bannon and Eugene Duffin pointed for Cushendun but a long range point from Darren Hamill kept Glenarm in the driving seat, and two points clear. With just two minutes of normal time in the first half remaining Cushenun drew level for the first time when Conlaoth McNeill pointed a free and Conor Bannon added one from play, and though Barry Hamill briefly edged Glenarm back ahead, a Tom Scally point in injury time sent the teams in level at the break.

Glenarm got their noses in front twice in the early stages of the second half, the second score from Daniel Black putting them a point ahead once again but five minutes in Cushendun struck a telling blow when David Kilgore got in for his team’s first goal. Eoin Mc Quillan, Conor McHugh, McQuillan again and then Conlaoth McNeill tacked on points and suddenly the home team were six clear and gaining the upper hand. Two Daniel Black points in the 44th and 45th minutes brought Glenarm back to within four, but three points in as many minutes from Eugene Duffin, David Kilgore and Conlaith McNeill stretched the advantage to seven. Glenarm battled away as Darren Hamill and Daniel Black came back with points but the home team finished with a flurry as substitute Alex McMullan goaled and Conor McHugh, McMullan and David Kilgore sent over points to wrap up a convincing win.
