Ballycastle win U12 Leauge play-off

U12 All County League Title Decider 2018

It’s not often that it takes a play off to decide the U12 Camogie League in Antrim but this year there were two teams who were very much inseparable. The young Camógs from Ballycastle and Cushendall have had some close battles during the year, each taking league points on their home patch and remaining undefeated in all other games leaving them level at the end of the league rounds. It took a play off in Cushendun last Saturday to find a winner of the County League Title, and even that wasn’t easy. A fantastic display of skill, courage, vigour and determination was served up to the supporters of both clubs. The young guns from both sides battled in a nip and tuck affair from the first whistle and were level at half time on a scoreline of MacUilín 2-03 Ruairí Óg 3-0. It was all to play for in the second half with neither team giving up but in the end the point taking ability of the girls in black and amber to nudge ahead and the resilience of their defence in the closing minutes saw them edge the encounter by the narrowest of margins. Ryan O’Reilly’s whistle was well received by the exhausted players and supporters who were kept on the edge of their seats for the entire game. We have a feeling these two teams will have many a battle in the future!
