St. Ergnat’s Moneyglass are this year’s U16B football League champions after a narrow win over a brave St. Enda’s at Whitehill on Sunday.

St. Ergnat’s and St. Enda’s had reached the final with victories over St. Joseph’s Glenavy and Kickham’s Creggan respectively and with both sides showing impressive form in their semi-final games this promised to be an evenly matched final.

Moneyglass opened with an early point with St. Enda’s quick to respond as scores were traded equally during the opening exchanges but with the wind at their back St. Ergnat’s began to exert pressure on the St. Enda’s goal.

Despite a great display of goal keeping by the St. Enda’s custodian the Moneyglass pressure started to pay and by half time they led by 2-6 to 0-5 but with a strong wind to face in the second half.

The Marrion Hill boys opened the second half on the offensive but were unable to add to their half time total and slowly the Glengormley side began to find the range with some excellent points and when a speculative shot ended in the net there was only three between them.

The final minutes saw the boys in blue defend a barrage of play from their opponents with most of the play conducted in the Moneyglass half and a couple of fine points by the Hightown boys left the game balancing on a knife edge but St. Ergnat’s held on to take the title.
