U21 Football Championship
Moneyglass 2-11 All Saints 1-7
Moneyglass u21s got off to a winning start against All Saints Ballymena at a blustery Creggan pitch today.
Facing into a strong wind in the first half the Marrion Hill men would have been relieved to hear the half time whistle and find themselves only one point in arrears. This was largely due to Conaill Prenter’s goal shortly before half time.
In the second half Moneyglass with the benefit of the wind at their backs were able to play a more direct style of football, and the early ball to their full forward line was beginning to pay dividends.
After some great defending by Peter McCormick to force a turnover in his own half back line he laid it off to captain Tiernan Duffin. Duffin then played a nice diagonal ball to Ronan Graham who had been switched to the full forward line at this stage. Graham hand passed to the oncoming Dermot ‘Bugsy’ McErlain who delightfully finished to the top corner of the net.
Next up for Moneyglass is Aghagallon at home. They will know that if they are to get a result next time out they will need to be more ruthless in front of the posts.
As for All Saints they face a tough test against one of the competition favourites Dunloy who defeated Aghagallon by two goals in their first group game.
