Roger Casements Portglenone qualified for the knockout stages of the U21A championship on Wednesday night with a high scoring win against Glenavy. Casements got off to a flying start with two goals from Ryan Convery in midfield and Stephen Kelly adding a further goal. Two pointed frees from Ciaran Lynch left the score 3-2 to 0-0 after just 10 minutes played. Further points from Lynch, Michael Hagan and Declan Dobbin and further goals from midfield pairing Oisin Doherty and Ryan Convery ensured that the tie was as good as over with just 25 minutes played. Alex Gallagher got Glenavy off the mark with two pointed frees. Leaving the half time score 5-10 to 0-2.
The second half started much the same for Casements with Lynch deadly accurate from placed ball however Casements took their foot off the pedal and Glenavy added 3 goals in the space of five minutes with Mattew Hamill leading from the back and starting Glenavy’s attacks,. Rory Nelson and Alex Gallagher added further goals in the second half but Casements responded with their own through Ryan Convery and the impressive Ciaran Lynch. Casements hit a late flurry of point to finish with centre half back Conor McGee scoring 3 and corner forwards Christy Convery and Declan Dobbin chipping in with points and Ryan Convery man of the match on the night.
