A good start and a strong finish helped Moneyglass to a nine point win over Davitt’s at Falls Park on Friday evening. The South West side dominated the opening quarter and were 1-7 to 0-1 up, but Davitt’s slowly grew into the game and closed to within six at the break. The Falls Road men were on top in the third quarter when they hit five points to just one from Moneyglass to close to within two. It could have been even better for the Davitt’s, but for a couple of brilliant stops by the visitors goalkeeper Mark Carey and as the game wore on the St Ergnat’s men regained a foothold and a late goal from substitute Liam Brady saw them hone with a bit to spare.

That early run of scores by Moneyglass saw Patrick McCormack (2), Conal Prenter, Colum Duffin and Dermot McErlain fire over points, to add to Prenter’s early goal while Christopher Laverty got Davitt’s solitary reply. However a Sean O’Neill point settled the home side and when centre half back Declan Smyth added another a minute later they began to build as bit of momentum. They had further chances nearing half time and had a goal ruled out for a square ball infringement and just before the break O’Neill appeared to be in for a goal but Carey in the Moneyglass goal turned his well hit shot over the bar for a point.

Early second half points from Coamhan Slane and Declan Smyth got Davitt’s off to good start in the second half and though Conor Boyd replied with one for the visitors Niall Hughes, Danny Largy and Declan Smyth added to the Davitt’s tally to cut the gap to just two by the 42nd minute. Both teams were guilty of some poor shooting with Moneyglass particularly poor in that department but they seemed to have ended their scoreless spell on a high when midfielder Dermot McErlain volleyed the ball high into the Davitt’s net only for it to be ruled out as the whistle had already blown. McErlain pointed the free which got his team going again and he added two more soon afterwards while substitute Brady also chipped in. Sean O’Neill pulled a point back for Davitt’s from a free but Moneyglass were now back in control of matters and a point from Gavin Murray and a goal from substitute Liam Brady saw them safely over the line.
