Aghagallon 0-11 Lamh Dhearg 1-8

Pairc na nGael was the venue for tonight’s final game before the split with an under strength Lamh Dearg team providing the opposition.

In terms of the split both teams knew their fate before throw in with St Mary’s probably having more to play for as they wanted to retain their position on top of the bottom six.

As far as the football went if you missed the first ten minutes of the game you missed the best of it – during this period the hosts ran in an early lead but it was clawed back and Lamh Dearg got their noses in front but by the tenth minute St Marys again had the slenderest of advantages at 0:05 to 0:04.

Unfortunately the rest of the game languished into a ugly, stop start affair with a lot of off the ball incidents ruining the prospect of any fluency in the game.

Half time came with the teams level at 0:08 to 1:05, unfortunately it wasn’t to get any better in the second half and it was so disjointed that both teams would only score another two points each, with one each from frees.

A very frustrating night and a poor advert for top flight football, ending St Mary’s four game winning streak but they have now gone five without defeat after a difficult set of opening fixtures and look to bring that form into the post-split fixtures.
