Antrim Hurling League Division 2
Eoghan Ruadh Dungannon 3-13 Carey Faughs 0-20
This game had everything, loads of good hurling and some great scores, as well as the usual controversial issues, in St Patrick’s Park, Ballyvoy.
Damien Casey got the visitors “up and running” with a point from a free immediately after the throw in. However the home side quickly got into their stride and after 10 minutes held a four point lead after scores from Darren McGowan, Sean McLaughlin, James Black, Dan Martin and Colm McBride, but on the 12th minute against the run of play, the Tyrone side found the Carey net with a well worked goal after Casey found Matt Mulgrew.
Casey exchanges three points with, James Black and two from Conor McBride to leave the North Antrim men still holding a two point lead, but with 20 minutes gone Cathal McErlaine found the Carey defence in disarray and fired home his sides second goal to give the the Dungannon men the lead, which they were never to lose.
James Black and Damien Casey again exchanges points before McErlaine scored his second goal to extend the lead to five for the visitors. Kevin Morgan and Lorcan Devlin cancelled out points from Carey’s Darren McGowan and Conor McBride to leave the half time score 3-8 to 0-12 in favour to the RUADH.
It was “de je vue” as Carey repealed the act with and opening point in the second half. However the home side started to play longer balls out of defence and by the mid-way point to the half had reduced the deficit to three, after points from Cathal McAuley, James Black and Conor McBride.
Carey despite a number of efforts on the Eoghan Ruadh goal just could not find a way past Tyrone County Keeper John Devlin. Kevin Morgan extended the visitors lead with a point, but with a Sean McLaughlin point and a further two from Conor McBride frees, the margin was now down to a point with 7 minutes to go.
Again Casey exchanged points with Conor McBride and he repeated the same from a free to extend the lead for his side, but a Fiachra McVeigh point followed by another pointed free from McBride left only a point separating the sides with only minutes to play, but a free to the visitors on the 32nd minute was the ensurance point required. This was probably looked upon by both management teams as a good Championship work out.
