‘Biddies’ save best to the last but are relegated

ACHL Division 2

Tir na nOg 1-12  St. Brigid’s Cloughmills 1-18

St. Brigid’s Cloughmills saved their best performance of the year for last night when they travelled to Whitehill and defeated Tir na nOg by six points but unfortunately for the Cloughmills side they could not stave off relegation to division 3 for 2020.

It has been a difficult season for the ‘Biddies’ and although they have performed well in many of their games the results just wouldn’t come. It’s only a couple of years since St. Brigid’s were in division one and lifting an Ulster Intermediate title and many of those players are still around.

We at the Saffron Gael have been present at many of those games and congratulate the club on promoting hurling in a difficult environment and doing it very successfully and like Ahoghill before them, I believe they have the players and the desire to bounce back strongly next year.

Before that though St. Brigid’s have a championship meeting with Glenariffe Oisin at the start of September and last night’s win might just be the tonic they need to give that one a real lash and keep a difficult season alive
