North Antrim U12B League final
Tir na nOg 1-9 All Saints 2-2
Tir na nOg Randalstown completed the treble of North Antrim indoor League, North Antrim league and North Antrim Championship when they defeated All Saints Ballymena in today’s league final. Tir na nOg started this final on the front foot and were ahead within the first minute with a point from Conor Loughran. It was all Tir na nOg in the early stages and Conor Loughran doubled the lead in the 7th minute, quickly followed by a Daniel McLornan point to put 3 between the sides after 10 minutes. A minute later the green flag was raised, with that man Conor Loughran scoring a great kicked goal. All Saints were struggling to get out od defence and things got harder for them when Daniel McLornan knocked over another point to leave it 1-04 to no score after 15 minutes. All Saints to their credit kept plugging away and got their rewards with a major after 16 minutes. The opening half belonged to the Whitehill side though and they responded with frees from Daniel McLornon & Conor Loughran, and a Tiarnan Bonnes point from play to leave it 1-07 to 1-00 at the short whistle.
With the wind picking up All Saints needed scores and one came in the first minute when a free crept over the line to put only 4 between the teams. All Saints followed this up with 2 pointed frees and midway through the half there was only 2 between the teams. All Saints were throwing everything at the opposition but the Whitehill team were standing up to everything and fighting for every ball. Fresh legs were introduced from the home bench and this lifted the team. Tir na nOg hadn’t scored in the second half and the next score would be crucial and it arrived in the 35th minute, Daniel McLornon struck it to put 3 between the teams. Tiarnan Bonnes followed this 2 minutes later to put the Whitehill side 4 up with 3 to play. All Saints threw the kitchen sink at the opposition in the last couple of minutes and nearly got the goal they badly needed a minute from time with a free, but the ball was repelled by a mass of Tir na nOg bodies. A minute later it was all over as the Randalstown side had claimed the title on a scoreline of 1-09 to 2-02. The winners were superb all over the field today, and All Saints certainly put it up to them. Both teams can hold their heads up high after a rip roaring game of Hurling but Tir na nOg just shaded it to complete a league and championship double in this their centenary year.
