While September heralds the return to school for teachers and students alike it also marks the beginning of the primary school GAA season. South West Antrim Cumann Na mBunscol manages the Gaelic games activities of local primary schools from September through to June and includes provision for all 4 GAA codes across a range of age groups and venues. Be it indoor competition or GAA in the great outdoors the teachers and assistants involved will be there coaching and organising from the sidelines.
At today’s AGM held in St. Brigid’s PS in Ballymena this year’s committee was voted in. The three main positions remain unchanged with Jim Brady (St. Brigid’s PS) returning as Chairperson, Padraic McKenna (Mary Queen of Peace PS) as secretary and Diarmuid Murray (St. Colmcille’s PS) as treasurer. Paul McAttamney (St. Brigid’s PS) takes the reins as PRO while Terry McCann (St. Patrick’s PS) is the new trophy secretary. They are joined by Leanne McGarry & Colm Cunningham (St. Brigid’s PS) and Gavin Philips (St. Comgall’s PS) who complete this year’s committee.
These are exciting times for Cumann Na mBunscol as they work in partnership with Dr. Paul Donnelly and his Gaelfast team to promote and develop Gaelic games in our primary schools.
