Group 2

Ballycastle 1-5 Tír na nÓg 1-9

THERE were three competitive enough games in Division 2 on Thursday evening with Brídíní Óga and Dunloy finishing level in Glenravel.

The home side defended strongly in the first half against the breeze and led by 0-6 to 0-4 at the break with two scores each from Oonagh Ward and Eimhear McAleenan.

After Eimhear had extended the lead at the start of the second half, Eimear Johnston and Mary Martin broke through from two Dunloy goals inside 30 seconds and they took the game to Brídíní Óga until the second water break.

The home side finished strongly though with a goal from McAleenan and then another from Shauna Morrow looked like bagging the points until Caitlin Crawford buried a late equaliser for the Cúchulainn’s directly from a 30 metres’ free.

The other game in Group One at Ahoghill was keenly contested with the teams level at the break on 1-6 each. Noreen Graham scored the goal for the home side, while Sarah Armstrong was on the mark for Rossa.

Both free-takers, Caitriona Graham and Orlagh McCall, were prominent for their teams over the hour with Eimear Byrne’s three points putting the pressure on the locals.

In the end, despite a second goal from the always threatening Noreen Graham, Rossa pulled away for a three points’ victory.

Meanwhile in Group Two there was only one game with Tír na nÓg picking up a second victory against a Ballycastle team that had beaten Loughgiel last week.

Once again Aoife McGowan was the star for the home side with a string of saves over the hour, but she couldn’t prevent Caitlin McGaughey notching a first half goal that put the Randalstown outfit 1-5 to 0-2 ahead at the break.

A goal from Faye McIntosh midway through the second half breathed life into the McQuillan’s challenge and there was some hope for them at 1-8 to 1-4.

However Tír na nÓg tagged on points from Áine Devlin and Emily Falloon and those eased them over the line for a second win as all the teams head into a crucial week where each plays two games.
