Casement Social Club Junior Hurling Championship
St Agnes 2-04 Cushendun 7-31
Report and pics by Michael Morgan
Cushendun lived up to their favorites tag in this JHC round robin match with a comfortable win over St Agnes’ as they picked up from where they left of in their opening game. The Aggies took a shock lead in the second minute, when a speculative effort from James Halleron found its way to the Emmetts’ net. This however only sprung the Cushendun team into action and once Conleth McNeill got Cushendun’s first point in the 4th minute, the Cushendun men took control.
As hard as St Agnes tried, they just weren’t a match for Cushendun and only for a fine display from ‘keeper Christopher Fay the margin of defeat would have been considerably wider. With a 4-11 to 1-03 lead at half time, Cushendun could afford to make 5 substitutions. With top-scorer McNeill (3-05 )being replaced, the Cushendun boys had 10 different players getting on the scoresheet in the second half, racking up a further 3-20 to The Aggies 1-01. Cushendun will face tougher challenges as the competion progresses, but on this showing, they still appear to be the team to beat in this years Junior Championship.
