Shamrocks in complete control

Under 16 Hurling – Group 1

Loughgiel 5-14 Sarsfields 0-2

Loughgiel had a runaway win over Sarfields in Tuesday evening’s penultimate game in the league section of the Under 16 Hurling Championship at Fr Healy Park, and with only one game left it puts them in pole position to make the final.

Sarfields were first to score when Anthony McGarrigle pointed in the second minute, but they only manager one more point for the remaining 58 minutes at Shamrocks took full control.

Loughgiel got off the mark in the fourth minute through Ronan McCollum and six minutes later Jack McCloskey got his team’s first goal. That gave the Shamrocks a firm grip on the game and points followed from Conor Dickson, Jack McCloskey (2), Jack McKendry and Ronan McCollum. Sarsfields pulled a point back through McGarrigle five minutes before the break, but Loughgiel finished the half strongly and a second goal from Jack McCloskey and two points from centre forward Ronan McCollum had them 2-8 to 0-2 ahead at the break.

The second half was all one way traffic as the Shamrocks ruled the roost with a string of points, plus two Ronan McCollum goals to all but secure their place in the final
