St Paul’s impress in win over Ballycastle

Under 16 Hurling – Group 1

St Paul’s 6-14 Ballycastle 1-5

St Paul’s had a big win over Ballycastle in Tuesday evening’s Under 16 Hurling Group 1 game at Shaw’s Road, winning in the end by 6-14 to 1-5.

St Paul’s were 1-3 to ahead after five minutes, the goal coming from Paul Donnelly and the points from Donnelly, Caoimhin Duff and Sean Munce. Ballycastle opened their account with a point from a free from team captain Tiernan Heggart, but St Paul’s came back with a goal from a penalty by Paul Donnelly to make it 2-2 to a point. Ballycastle replied with a point from a free but three points in a row from Tomas Duff, Paul Donnelly and Sean Munce stretched their lead to nine points by the 26th minute. Ballycastle replied with another pointed free from Heggarty but a strong finish to the half which included goals from Paul Donnelly and Lorcan Phillips had the team in total control at the break.

The second half was more of the same as a Ballycastle team, short a few regulars, struggled to keep pace with the home side. Two goals from Michael Howell and two points from Lorcan Phillip put the game beyond all doubt, though Ballycastle did hit back with a goal and a point from their centre forward Tienran Heggarty

That was as good as it got for the visitors as the home side ended with a string of points from Tomas Duff (2), Paul Donnelly and Miceál Howell to run out convincing winners.
