St Teresa’s 2-20 Ardoyne Kickham’s 2-10
St Teresa’s booked their place in Saturday’s Junior B Hurling final when they beat Belfast rivals Ardoyne on Tuesday evening at Woodlands’. On top from the start St Teresa’s played with wind advantage in the opening half and were 1-13 to 04 in front when referee Terry Reilly blew the half time whistle. Ardoyne fared better in the second half as Hugh Grieve pulled a couple of goals back but they had always too much ground to make up and St Teresa’s won with a bit to spare.
Wind assisted St Teresa’s started strongly and after Darren McCann and Colm McGoldrick added points Kevin Burns got their first goal when he got in behind the Ardoyne defence and whipped a ground shot to the net. Philly Maguire added two more before Ardoyne got their first score of the game through Hugh Grieve but the flow was mostly one way and the men from the Glen Road pushed on to lead by 1-7 to 0-3 at the water break. When they resumed Adan Dougan pulled one back for Ardoyne but St Teresa’s dominated the remainder of the opening half and stretched their lead to 1-13 to 0-4 by half time.
A point from distance from Ardoyne’s Christopher McShane at the start of the second half briefly raised hopes but St Teresa’s responded with a point from Sean Maguire and goal from Darren McCann. There was no way back for the Kickhams now and St Teresa’s pushed on to safely book their place in Saturday’s final.
