Antrim Ladies Gaelic Football Junior B semi-final
Laochra Loch Lao 0-3 Oisins Glenariffe 0-12
Glenariffe Oisins booked their place in next weekend’s Ladies Junior B Football final when they travelled to Belfast on Sunday evening and beat Laochra Loch Lao in the semi-final at Coláiste Feirste. The scoreline would suggest a one sided game, an in truth the Glenariffe girls looked comfortable for large parts of the game, but if the home team had taken the goal chances that came their way at different stages of the game then the story could have been a lot different. They had a goal ruled out for a ‘square ball’ offence during the opening quarter and in the final quarter they had a shot come back off the upright from Fionuala NcAn which bounced out to Rachael Divine who fired it off the underside of the crossbar before being cleared to safety.
Glenariffe started with points from Naimh O’Neill and Gemma Black to lead 0-2 to 0-0 after two minutes but Laochra Loch Lao were soon level as Sarah Quinn and Caoimhe Ni Chathail fired over at the other end. Glenariffe then had their first let-off when a shot from Laochra’s Sinead Coleman ended up in the net but the score was ruled out for a ‘square’ infringement and the sides remained level at the first half water break.
It was six minutes after the restart before the Oisins edged in front with a point from Tara O’Neill and when twin sister Niamh added another one a minute later they were in control and added three more without reply before the break through Leah Cosgrove (2) and Niamh O’Neill to open up a 0-7 to 0-2 gap by half time.
The third quarter was all Glenariffe and they added two further points through Gemma Black and Patricia Abram to go 0-9 to 0-2 clear before a great move by the home side put centre forward Caoimhe Ni Chathail through on goal, but the number 11 saw her well struck shot just shave the outside of the upright. The Oisins then stretched their lead to nine as Megan O’Loughlin and Tara O’Neill added points, and though Laochra Loch Lao created two further chances, lady luck was not on their side and the Oisins advanced to a final meeting with Sarsfields next weekend.
