Saints book a semi-final spot

U16A Football League

All Saints 8-15 Tir na nOg 1-11

Tyrone Mitchell struck 3-4 before being replaced early in the second half as All Saints proved too strong for a skilful Tir na nOg at Slemish Park today to book a place in the semi-final of the U16A football league.

Most of the damage had already been done as Ryan McCartney, Joseph O’Rawe and Ciaran McQuillan scored first half goal to add to Mitchell’s strike as the Slemish Park side led 4-12 to 0-5 at the interval with Conor Hastings prominent for the visitors.

Mitchell added two more early in the second half before leaving the action and Fintan Brady and Ciaran McQuillan both found the net but Tir na nOg quite simply refused to throw in the towel and played some delightful football after that opening blitz by the home side.

They had to wait until late in the game to get the goal that their approach play threatened when Conor Hastings finally found a way past Daniel McCoy from the penalty spot and they went on to add some excellent points through Kane Devine, Odhran Murray, Darra Martin and Joe McGurk.

The damage had been done however with Paul O’Boyle, Joseph O’Rawe, Ciaran McQuillan, Archie McGreevey, Cal O’Brien and Ryan McCartney firing over a flurry of points to put All Saints out of sight.

Daniel McCoy was sound in the All Saints goals and Kevin O’Boyle, Aodhan McGarry, Archie McGreevey were best in a strong All Saints defence. Rhys Wright and Cal O’Brien were always threatening from mid-field while Ryan McCartney, Joseph O’Rawe and Tyrone Mitchel were best in a very potent All Saints attack.

Conor Hastings, Odhran Murray, Darra Martin and Joe McCormick were the pick of a young Tir na nOg side  who’s combination play in the second half was certainly impressive and quite a number of this team are under age again next year and have a bright future.

All Saints: Daniel McCoy, Darra Killough, Kevin O’Boyle, Ryan Thom, Ryan Martin, Aodhan McGarry, Archie McGreevey, Rhys Wright, Cal O’Brien, Paul O’Boyle, Ryan McCartney, Joseph O’Rawe, Fintan Brady, Tyrone Mitchell, Ciaran McQuillan, Subs: Niall Devine for Dara Killough, Darach Bradley for Tyrone Mitchell, TP McGurk, Jude Osborne, Oliver O’Rawe for Ryan Martin (Blood Sub)
