St Paul’s u12 footballers played out a brilliant advert for juvenile football with St Brigid’s coming out on top in their last league game – a winner takes all contest.
Played at Musgrave, both sides played their part in an excellent game which could have went either way. St Paul’s went into a two point lead early in the first half with scores from Dillon, Rogers, Duffy and James McDonnell. However St Brigid’s replied with three unanswered points to lead by one heading towards end of the first half. In a tough tackling contest St Brigid’s looked like heading into half time ahead until a well worked goal for the visitors towards the half time whistle from gave St Paul’s a two point half time lead.
The second period was more open leading to some great scores from both sides with two goals for powerhouse Oisin Cusack and Johnny Higgins with a goal for St Brigid’s.
A goal from midfielder Oisin Gamble gave St Paul’s a five point lead towards the end of the half with points from McDonnell and Cusack again. St Brigid’s kept fighting and keep the visitors on their toes with another late goal – however St Paul’s held out for a two point win to lift the league title.
