All County Football League U16 B Final
St. Mary’s Aghagallon 0-17 Gort Na Mona 0-5
St. Mary’s Aghagallon completed a remarkable treble when they defeated a battling Gort Na Mona in the 2015 All County U16 B Football League final at Slemish Park, Ballymena on Saturday past. The side from the Armagh border were never troubled and led from start to finish and had this one wrapped up by half time when they led by 0-10 to 0-2.
Having already won the South West U16 B league with a victory over St. Comgall’s and the Breslin Cup where they defeated Moneyglass in the final, Ahagallon arrived in Ballymena full of confidence and that confidence was soon justified as they set about dismantling their South Antrim opposition.
Adam Loughran pointed them ahead early in the game and with Jack Lenaghan orchestrating matters on the ‘40’ the scores began to flow. Lenaghan, Fiontan Campbell, Loughran, Marc McAffee and Jamie Lamont were all to the fore as the South West champions went on to lead by eight points at the break.
Gort na Mona worked hard during the opening half with Caolan Cahill and Niall Melaney getting their first half scores but they had to rely on keeper Joseph Carlin who brought off a number of fine saves to deny the St. Mary’s attack.
During the second half Gort na Mona kept pegging away and did manage to add a further three points but Aghagallon continued to find the target with regularity and were never in any danger of being caught.
Best for a good all round St. Mary’s side were Luke Mulholland, Darragh McStravick, Callum Fitzpatrick, Aodan Mulholland, Marc McAffee, Jamie Lamont, Adam Loughran, Jack Lenaghan, Gerry Downing and Fiontan Campbell while Gort Na Mona had fine performers in Joseph Carlin, Connlaio Taylor, Patrick Coumane, Thomas McGreevey, Niall Melaney and Caolan Cahill.
