The St Ergnats Moneyglass Ladies took to the pitch on Saturday afternoon for the first Camogie training session of the year. After a very successful performance in 2020 from the Moneyglass U16 Camogs , who reached the championship final, and with growing numbers, St Ergnats have entered a Senior Camogie team for the first time since 1987.
Great to see the Moneyglass Camogie girls back playing at this level . Of course this didn’t just happen overnight . Colm Scullin decided a few years back it would be great to get Camogie and hurling going in the club . This was a big task as ladies football is extremely strong in the club but he worked hard at it and along with Mariead Griffin , Martin Boyd , Dolores Dobbin , Martin Boyd , Malachy Martin , Jimmy McMeel, Brendan Printer and Sean O’Boyle to name but a few. Many more volunteers helped out over the last few years in different ways.

On Saturday I spoke to Colm Scullin and he told me the girls were meeting their new managers before training that day. The senior manager is Catherine McGovern , who’s aunts played in the last Moneyglass senior team in 1987. We wish her the best of luck to her in her new position.
The minor manager is Dolores Dobbin, who herself played in the 1987 team, and there will be a few others helping both team managers along the way .
So all looked bright in Moneyglass for the camogie girls on Saturday as they got back on the grass for 2021.
