Loughgiel 3-17 Armoy 1-18
The Glen Rovers travelled to Fr Healy Park to play the Loughgiel Shamrocks to play in the Countess of Antrim. The match began with a strong start for the home side team, which amounted to a quick deliverance of a point by Shaun McFadden. Despite the constant challenge presented by Timmy Burns and Conor Watterson, Christy Dickson had shown great proficiency as well as an inborn strength that maintained a strong defence for Loughgiel. A goal by Cormac McFadden had advanced Loughgiel’s forces which was subsequently followed by another terrific goal by Connall Kerr. A series of frees taken by Conor Christie had helped gather four points for Armoy by the first water break in which the score was 2-04 to 0-4 in Loughgiel’s favour.
Paul Boyle made great strides in the latter segment of the match as did Damian Quinn and Paddy Laverty, and it seemed that frees were keeping Armoy within the game as the half time whistle was blown with a score of 2-12 to 0-6.
With the start of the second half, Shane O’Boyle pranced through the field, but despite his best efforts, Armoy were coming back into the game with a much more physical approach. Conor Watterson and Emmet O’Hara scored a point each, and they were followed by another four points from frees which were delivered by Conor Christie. By the second water break, points by Barney McAuley, Shaun McFadden and Cormac McFadden had given Loughgiel the edge on a scoreline of 2-15 to 0-14 but Joe McBride continued the counter attack with a point for Armoy and a goal by PJ McBride had tightened the difference of scores. Armoy’s efforts were however undone by a goal by Christy McGarry and a final point by Cormac McFadden from a free. Loughgiel had secured a victory over Armoy with a final score of 3-17 to 1-17.
