Aghagallon 1-17 Sarsfields 4-5

Aghagallon won the Under 17 Football League title when they beat Sarsfields in Sunday’s final at Dunsilly. Trailing by two points at half time Aghagallon had the better of the third quarter and retook the lead, their task made a little easier when a Sarsfields player received a second yellow card. However Sarfields came back with a goal from Oisin Coleman and a point from their star man Brian Hardy to draw level again, but the final quarter belonged to Aghagallon and three pointed frees from their top scorer Johnny Hannon saw them home.

Hannon was heavily involved in Aghagallon’s opening burst as he sent over three points from frees to help his team to a 0-4 to 0-0 lead. Sarsfields were struggling to get to the pace of the game, but all changed in a brilliant spell which saw corner forward Oisin Coleman fire home a goal from close range and when the Paddies won the kick-out and sent the ball back in from the left wing Brian Healy rose to flick the ball to the net to give his team a two point lead. Sean Gowdy and Johnny Hannon came back with points to level matters but Sarsfields struck again and a brilliant point from out on the right by Healy was followed by one from Sé Ferris, before Healy fired in his second goal.

Aghagallon were shaken, but they slowly settled back into the their game and finished with three points from Enda McCartan, Johnny Hannon and Enda McCartan to close the gap to two at the break.

Three points at the start of the second half edged Aghagallon in front and when Conor Magill got their only goal they were four clear and appeared to be in a strong position. However Sarsfields again found a response and following good work by Healy the ball broke to Oisin Coleman who fired home, and when Healy added a point they were back on terms.

The fat was in the fire once again but Aghagallon slowly regained control and they finished with three pointed frees from Johnny Hannon to seal the win.
