All County Under-15 (B) Football Championship (Final)
Dunloy 5-10 Cargin 2-6
A hat trick by impressive full forward Oisin Mc Camphill secured victory for Cuchullian’s Dunloy at the expense of a gallant Cargin outfit in Ballymena on Saturday evening.
The full forward found the net a few minutes into proceedings and ensured his side an early advantage which they were to retain right until the final whistle.
Cargin returned fire a few minutes later Daniel McCann fired home but the Cuchullian’s were quick to reply at the other end through Reece Cunning and to ensure a 2-04 to 1-05 interval lead.
Dunloy led 2-03 to 1-02 at the first water break and increased that lead as the opening period approached.
The Toome side finished the half strongly and a late flurry of white flags saw only a couple of points seperated the sides, 2-04 to 1-05 at the break.
Dunloy, now with the breeze at their backs started the second half on a positive note and with quick employment given to the score board attendant as Jack Mc Keever, Oisin Mc Camphill and Reece Cunning pointed in the opening phase.
Callum Gribbin pointed from 35metres following a foul on Fiontan Hardy to open Erin’s Own second half account but a wayward pass on the approach was severely punished as a well laid counter saw Caolan McFerran send Oisin McCamphill away to blast to the net.
Cargin were quick to reply as a slick approach at the other end saw Fiontan Hardy upended inside the square and Callum Gribbin calmly stroked the ensuing spot kick to the corner of the net.
The Cuchullain’s responded and Jack Mc Keever’s clearance found Chris Mc Callion and the wing half forward finished with a fine strike at the other end to move his side a 4-07 to 2-06 ahead at the second water break and the die did look cast.
Cargin tried to respond going into the final quarter but in the event it was the Cuchullian’s who began as the had concluded with an excellent Oisin Mc Camphill goal to complete his hat trick less than a minute in.
A further brace of points by Mc Camphill increased the Dunloy advantage and as Cargin tried to respond both Jack O’ Neill and Niall Quinn were denied by the woodwork in the 56th and 58th minutes.
Cuchullian’s were to have the final say in the matter and a late Donnach Laverty point saw them conclude at 5-10 to 2-06 aheadand the silverware was on its way the Dunloy.
