2020 Ulster Junior quarter-final:
Crosserlough (Cavan) 1-5 Tír na nÓg (Antrim) 2-9
Tir na nóg Randalstown secured their place in the semi-final of the 2020 Ulster Junior Camogie Championship when they travelled to Cavan on Saturday and beat Crosserlough by 2-9 to 1-5 in the quarter final
The Randalstown girls had a star in full forward Aine Devlin who bagged 2-6 in a terrific performance, despite having to retire before half time through injury.
Devlin pointed a free in the opening minute and from the poc out gained possession and buried a goal. Two minutes later she pointed a 45 and the 2020 Antrim champions had settled into this difficult tie against double Ulster winners Crosserlough on home turf.
Devlin’s second goal came in the 15th minute and she added four more points from frees before she dropped one wide in the 31st minute. By then Tír na nÓg were 2-6 to 1-1 up, but there was a further ten minutes before the break.
Some of that time was taken up attending to Devlin’s injury before Sinéad McKenna added a free to raise Crosserlough hopes for the second half.
However Michaela Heggarty took up the Randalstown scoring challenge after the departure of Áine Devlin, not only adding the other three points scored over the course of the second half but also dominating exchanges in the middle of the pitch where Devlin’s twin sister Brónagh was also strong at centre-half back.
Crosserlough, who lost their five years unbeaten run in Cavan to Laragh in October, were disappointing in a competition they have had success in over recent years. Orla Smith’s goal in the 11th minute to get the score-board running was their only highlight and they played second fiddle to the Antrim side for most of the game.
