CPC 6-20 St Mary’s CBGS 2-10
Cross & Passion College Ballycastle qualified for the the final of the Leonard Cup when they beat St Mary’s CBGS in Monday afternoon’s semi-final at Dunsilly
Leading by 2-8 to 1-7 at half time after having played against the wind in the opening half CPC pulled away in the second half and it was clear from a long way out that they would not be caught.
With the wind behind them in the first half CPC took a while to settle but when they win four up after 13 minutes ti looked like they were heading towards a big half time lead. However when St Mary’s Niall May opened his team’s account with a pointed free, things began to change and he brought his side level with three more fines strikes.

A great run by Darrah Donnelly on 21 minutes saw him offload to Aidan Richomdon who fired in CPC’s first goal, but Conor McConville hit back with a goal at the other end and the Belfast boys only trailed by four at the break 2-8 to 1-7.
With the breeze behind then in the second half CPC opened the gap to six within two minutes, but St Mary’s were given a boost when a Niall May free from out on the right dipped below the CPC crossbar to cut the gap back to just two points. When Taylor pointed for St Mary’s there was just one between the sides, but three goals inside two minutes, two from top scorer Roan McGarry and one from Darragh Donnelly killed the contest. From here until the end it was all one way traffic as the scores kept coming for the Ballycastle school as they pushed on to another final against rivals St Killians.
