Under 17 Hurling League – Division 1
Glenariffe: 2-17(23) loughgiel: 1-17(20)
Two of the teams expected to be battling for the top honours this season, Oisins and Loughgiel, showed why they are highly rated when they met in the Under 17 league at Waterfoot on Sunday. The Oisins came out on top by three points in the ends after a really entertaining game.

A goal and a point from left half forward Phelim Ward and one from Brogan O’Connor gave the Oisins a good start but with Jack McCloskey in great form for the Shamrocks they closed the gap and at the end of an exciting first 30 minutes there was just two points separating the sides. Oisins 1-9 – Loughgiel 1-7.
Loughgiel came back to level with two Jack McCloskey points early in the second half as they held the Oisins scoreless for ten minutes but the Glenariffe boys found their feet and points from Brogan O’Connor, Phelim Ward and Niall Magee were followed by a goal and a point from Orrin O’Connor put them seven clear.

Two points from McCloskey closed the gap but the home side came back with three to open and eight point gap with just five minutes to go. It appeared to be all over but in a five minutes spell of dominance Loughgiel fought back to closed the gap to a single point, all of the points but one coming form McCloskey. Deep into injury time it looked to be anybody’s game but the Oisins steadied the ship and two points from Phelin Ward, one from a free and one from play to seal the win and make it two wins from two.
