St Johns v Glenavy
St. John’s 8-6 Glenavy 1-4
Glenavy travelled to St. John’s in division 1 of the LGFA football league and were comprehensively beaten by a superb home side. The visitors flattered to deceive when they took the lead through an early Grainne Fallon goal but when Cora Magee replied with St. John’s opening goal to move them two points ahead they never looked back.
Magee fired a first time ground shot to the Glenavy net and further goals from Meabh Laverty and Caria Hamill had the Corrigan side very much in the ascendancy at half time where they led 4-3 to 1-1, the Glenavy point coming from the boot of Grainne McLaughlin who was busting a gut to get her side going.
It didn’t get any better for the Chapel Hill girls after the break as Ciara Hamill rattled the Glenavy net again on the restart and St. John’s were moving the ball around confidently and supporting the player in possession.
As the floodgates opened Debbie Boyd sent a first time volley to the net for the ‘Johnnies’ 7th goal and Cora Magee put the icing on a fine individual scoring performance with her side’s 8th goal. Grainne McLaughlin scored all of Glenavy’s points and with Grainne Fallon posed the greatest threat for the visitors while Debbie Boyd and Maebh Laverty were best in a very good St. John’s side.
