Pearses too strong for the Tones

Homefit Football League Division 3

Wolfe Tones 1-5 Pearses 4-12

Both teams came into Sunday’s derby off the back of wins but it was Pearses who made the short trip down the Antrim Road with the points with a convincing win over Wolfe Tones.

Pearses took an early lead and kept the pressure on for much of the first half until 20 minutes in when Pearse’s Brendan Devine brought Gerard McDonnell down in the D and Aodhán Moloney stroked over the resulting free. Pearses responded immediately and, although Tones registered another score before halftime, the Cliftonville men went in at the break leading 1-8 to 0-2.

Tones were quick out of the blocks from the second-half throw-in as the ball was bombed quickly down the pitch and Moloney stuck the ball in the roof of the Pearses’ goal. Tones ran out of steam and Pearses ran away with the game with C Hughes grabbing two goals and N Ó Cullin getting his second to steer their team to a 4-12 to 1-5 win.
