Carey Faughs fought back from 1-6 to 0-2 behind to score a comprehensive win over Glenariffe Oisins in Wednesday evening’s Division 2 league game in Ballyvoy.
Osins started off in this tense and bruising encounter as though they wanted to put the game to bed early, leading 1-6 to 0-2 at the end of the first quarter, their goal coming from Alex O Boyle. However the home team gradually worked their way into the game, with Conleth McKinley and John McBride being a constant threat and Conor McBride making inroads to the Glensmen’s lead. Alex O ‘Boyle kept the Osins in front with his deadly accuracy from frees, but the score that Carey needed came from Patrick McBride when he flicked a dropping ball past Paul McMullan in the Osins goal to level the game on the 25th minute, Michael Gettins and O’Boyle edged the visitors ahead to leave their side leading by 1-9 to 1-7 at the break.

On the resumption Carey seemed to be getting the better of the physical exchanges and by the end of the third quarter were four clear, with McCouaig, McBride and McKinley all on the score sheet. Glenariffe on the other hand only managed three points in the second half, all of them from O’Boyle frees, and a late goal from Fichra McVeigh sealed a very good win for a Faughs side to get their season off to a great start
