Ballycastle win well in Cushendall

Antrim Camogie League – Division 1

Cushendall 0-4 Ballycastle 5-11

Ballycastle had a big win over Cushendall in Tuesday evening’s Division 1 League game at Pairc Mhuire. With a lot of members of the All Ireland Junior winning side on show from Croke Park ten days earlier it was expected to be a close encounter but after a good start by the home side Ballycastle took over.

Niamh Anne Donnelly put Ballycastle ahead with the first score of the game but points from Ellen Leech and Dervla Cosgrove edged the home team in front. That however was to be their last score of the opening half as Ballycastle took over and goals from corner forwards Tara O’Neill and Aine Donnelly, and two from full forward Kathryn Mullan saw them race to a 4-5 to 0-2 half time lead.

The visitors had three more points on the board early in the second half through Tara O’Neill, Aine Donnelly and Emma Laverty before Dervla Cosgrove pulled one back from a free for Cushendall on 38 minutes. Aine and Niamh Anne Donnelly came back with points for Ballycastle, and after Dervla Cosgrove grabbed another point for the home side, Ballycastle finished with a goal from Emma Laverty and another Aine Donnelly point to win by 5-11 to 0-4
