Aghagallon impress in win over Aldergrove

Antrim Under 20 Football Championship

Aldergorve 1-6 Aghagallon 3-9

Aghagallon were impressive on Saturday when they travelled to take on local rivals Aldergrove in the opening round of the Under 20A Football Championship in Crumlin.

Having beaten holders Con Magees in a preliminary round a few weeks ago the Aghagallon side were sharp from the start and points from Ruairi McShane, Joe McIntyre (2) and Enda McCartan had them 0-4 to 0-1 up, the Aldergrove point coming Odhran Rooney. Full forward Ryan McCarthy cut the visitors lead back to two when he pointed from play, but Aghagallon came back strongly with a Pauric Maginnis point and goals from Hugh Hannon and Padraig Gowdy saw them push on to lead by 2-7 to 1-3 at half time.

The second half was a more even affair. Jack Nelson got the first two points for Aghagallon but three in a row from Cormac McGarry (2) and Odhran Rooney cut the gap back to five. However that was as close as they got and Aghagallon finished strongly with a Ciaran Maginnis goal to win in the end by double scores. 3-9 to 1-6.
