U20A Football quarter-final
Rossa 2-9 Moneyglass 4-13
Goals from Seanie Mcintosh in the third minute of the first half and the 7th minute of the second paved the way for a Moneyglass victory over Rossa at Shaw’s Road today.A second from Aidan McErlain with 12 minutes gone put a good St. Ergnat’s in a strong position and they never really looked back as they pushed on to lead 2-5 to 0-2 as half time approached.
It left the visitors in a commanding lead going into half time but a Liam Carr goal from the penalty spot in the 29th minute handed hosts Rossa a lifeline but they failed to build on that score.
Instead it was the Marian Hill side who pushed on after the break to dominate the second half as they did for the greater part of the first to run out fairly convincing winners in the end.
Liam Carr got the home side off the mark with a point after 30 seconds but it would be the only time that Rossa led as St. Ergnat’s came back strongly with a point from Shay Madden and a goal from Seanie McIntosh to take the lead with three minutes gone.

Tyler Cassidy and Connlaodh McCann added points before Aidan McErlain got in for the visitors second goal to leave them leading by 8 points with only 12 minutes played.
Liam Carr pulled one back for Rossa but Moneyglass were well on top at this stage and Kevin McCann and Shay Madden pointed at the other end as they continued to build a substantial lead.
A goal from the penalty spot by Rossa’s most potent attacker, Liam Carr handed the Shaw’s Road side a glimmer of hope but they still trailed by six as Sean Elliott sounded his half time whistle and it was going to take a big improvement for them to turn matters around in the second half.
Matt McKiernan pulled one back for Rossa at the start of the second half but they then lost a player to a Black card as Connlaodh McCann replied with a similar score at the other end to maintain St. Ergnat’s six point advantage
Two minutes later a goal from Seanie McIntosh, his second of the game put St. Ergnat’s in a very strong position and seemed to knock the fight out of a Rossa side who had been already struggling to deal with the pace and movement of their opponents.
Tyler Cassidy added a point in the 8th minute before Dire Murphy handed Rossa a glimmer of hope when he fired past Rory Gribbon for his side’s second goal in the 16th minute.

That hope was quickly dashed however as Moneyglass reasserted their strangle hold on proceedings as Connlaodh McCann pointed at the other end before Tyler Cassidy got in for his side’s fourth goal with 11 minutes remaining to put matters out of Rossa’s reach.
The visitors finished strongly with Shay Madden, Connlaodh McCann, Sean Boyd and Madden again adding points with Rossa’s only reply coming from Pearse Short and it is Moneyglass who now go forward to the semi-final.
