Brídíní Óga are Ulster Junior Champions

Brídíní Óga Glenravel (Antrim) 1-13 Granemore (Armagh) 0-9

Brídíní Óga Glenravel won the Ulster Junior A Camogie title for the first time when they beat Armagh champions Granemore in Saturday’s final in Derrytresk. Though they fell behind twice in the early minutes of the game the Antrim champions held the upper hand for most of the game and were fully deserving of their seven point win.

Lucy Doyle got Granemore off to a good start when she pointed from play but Aimee Traynor soon had the Antrim champions level with a neatly taken point at the other end. Granemore’s top scorer Rachael Merry put her team back in front. Eimhear McAleenan restored parity once again with the first of her nine points and the Glenravel girls really took a grip on the game when full forward Molly Woulahan drove a low shot to the corner of the Granemore net.

Molly Woulahan (14) drills a low shot just inside the Granemore post for the only goal of the game.

The Antrim girls pushed on from there and with the ever accurate Eimhear McAleenan punishing any Granemore indiscretions the led by 1-6 to 0-4 at half time, despite having another goal by Woulahan mysteriously ruled out just before the short whistle.

Brídíní Óga stretched their lead to seven early in the second half when Laoise McKenna and Eimhear McAleenan sent over points apiece and there was no way back for the Armagh girls. Racheal Merry sent over some good points from placed balls, but each time McAleenan was finding a reply and in truth there was never really any scares for the travelling Glenravel fans as they watched their team make history.
