Marie Maginn RIP

Coiste Scór Aontroma was saddened today to hear of the death of Mrs Marie Maginn; Mother of former All Ireland champion Caitriona McAtarsney from Aghagallon, Grandmother of County Scór Officer and former County Cultural Officer Bronagh Lennon and grandmother and great grandmother of many of the Scór competitors in Aghagallon. (Caoimhe, Éadaoin, Úna, Mairéad and Aoife)

Marie followed Scór all over the country, from Glenravel to Killarney, most recently to see her granddaughters and great granddaughter compete in an All Ireland Final in Killarney. Her granddaughter Niamh adjudicated at this All Ireland final and she was extremely proud. Marie watched her grandchildren Caoimhe, Éadaoin and Úna win a double All Ireland title in Castlebar and was delighted when her daughter Caitriona and granddaughter Bronagh won an All Ireland in 2015. Marie’s daughter, Fionnuala McAteer, is an active scór mentor in her club, Kickhams, Creggan and also acts as Bean an Tí for the County. Fionnuala’s daughters, Caitriona, Eibhlin and Orlaith also represented Creggan at Provincial level on numerous occasions, winning many County titles.

Marie was always extremely proud of her children and her grandchildren. She had a special bond with the young people who represented Aghagallon in Scór. The Scór community in Ulster will never be the same. Marie loved Scór, it was a big part of her life. She could be seen at Scór at every level with her sons, daughters and grandchildren, encouraging the young people and soaking up the cultural atmosphere. She was an amazing woman and will be sorely missed. We send our love and prayers to her family at this sad time. St Mary’s AghagallonGAA Scór Oifigiúil
