St Gall’s take the points at Milltown

Antrim Football League Division 1

St Gall’s 2-10 Tir na nÓg 1-9

Goals in either half helped St Gall’s earn both points in Sunday’s morning’s league game with Tir na nÓg at Milltown on Sunday morning. With the sides level on a point apiece after ten minutes Conor Hastings put the Randalstown club ahead with a point from out on the right. However the visitors only scored one more points for the remainder of the first half and St Gall’s came back with points from Gareth McAdam and Conn Doherty to level matters before grabbing a goal before the break through Niall O’Neill to give his team a 1-3 to 0-3 lead at the break.

Two points from corner forward Niall Fallon at the start of the second half increased the St Gall’s lead to five, but Tir na nÓg hit back with points from Paul McCloskey, Oliver McAtamney and Darragh Fagan to cut the gap back to two. Niall Burns, who had been playing deeper during the first half, moved further forward and began to have much more influence in the game and added two quick points in the 44th and 45th minutes. Centre half back Barry McCormick pulled on back for Tir na nÓg, to stay very much in contention, but two points from Mark McCrossan and two more from Niall Burns frees where followed by a well taken goal by corner forward Niall Fallon and the gap was out to eight.

There was still eight between the sides as the game went into injury time when Tir na nÓg corner forward Paul McCloskey rose to punch a high dropping ball to the back of the St Gall’s net, and when Darragh Fagan pointed seconds later the gap was back to four. However it was a case of too little, too late, as the final whistle sounded soon afterwards with St Gall’s collecting their first points of the season.
