St Enda’s and Swatragh were winners at the Conor Devlin Memorial tournament at Tir na nOg

The Conor Devlin Tournament is a very special day in the calendar of Tir-na-nÓg GAC, when we commemorate the memory of our young Gael, Conor Devlin, who was tragically taken from us in October 2007 at the young age of just 17.

Swatragh who won the Conor Devlin Shield

Tír-na-nÓg held their annual Conor Devlin tournament on Saturday 24th April, with 8 teams from Antrim, Down, and Derry competing in the 15th year of the competition. A day of magnificent hurling was served up with the sun shining and pitches in excellent condition.

The sun was shining and spirits were high as 8 teams travelled to Whitehill. Amongst those competing were St Olcans, Gaeil Ghluanaidh, St. Endas, Davitts, Carryduff, Bredagh, Swatragh and Na Magha.

The Tír na nÓg under 11s team were also running a car wash on the day, as they prepare for their trip to the All Ireland hurling semi-final. There was also a Poc Fada contest which was won by Oisin Heaney from Davitts.

Both groups provided very entertaining games for the crowds of spectators, and every team can be proud of how well they battled on the very hot day.

Michael Davitt GAC, Swatagh, won the shield this year, narrowly defeating Gaeil Ghluanaidh (Ahoghill/Ballymena) in a close final.

St. Enda’s, Glengormley overcame an excellent Carryduff team in the Cup Final.  Darragh Quinn of St Enda’s won the Player of the Tournament award, which was generously sponsored by Martin Hurls.  Martin Hurls once again sponsored the Poc Fada competition, which was won by John Ireland of the Gaeil Ghluanaidh team.

The Tír-na-nÓg Club would like to thank everyone who helped make this day enjoyable, particularly the Devlin family, the teams, the referees Ryan O’Reilly and Shane McDonnell, and finally The Saffron Gael’s Bert Trowlen, who captured the day in pictures.

A fantastic day as always in memory of a great Gael, many thanks to everyone who came and supported, and to all the coaches and players for providing such entertainment on the day!
