Con Magees win the Breslin Shield

Breslin Shield Final – South West Antrim Under 15 Fotball

Con Magee Gaels 1-7 Tir na nÓg 1-5

Con Magees Gaels came from 1-3 to 0-2 behind twenty minutes into Friday evenings Breslin Shield final to beat Tir na nÓg by two points in dreadful weather conditions at Cloney, Ahoghill.

The Glenravel boys scored the first point of the game on four minutes through Dara Higgins, but Tir na nÓg came back to dominate the next twenty minutes, scoring 1-3 in the process, all of them from their brilliant right half forward Padraig Redmond. However the Con Magees finished the half strongly with a goal from Christy Leech and a point from Sean McMullan to trail by just two at half time.

Redmond increased the Tir na nÓg lead to three when he sent over the first point of the second half, but three in a row from right half forward Sean McMullan had the Con Magees level by the 40th minute.  Redmond struck again to put the Randalstown boys back in front but on 42 minutes, McMullan put Con Magees back ahead a minute later. The scoring was low during the final quarter as weather conditions deteriorated even further, but two minutes from time corner forward Ciaran McCann added the insurance point to seal the win for the north Antrim side.
