St. Paul’s 0-6 St. Brigid’s 2-6
St. Brigid’s defeated St. Pauls in a very wet and dark encounter on Wednesday 13 September. The 6:45 Throw in meant the last 20 minutes was played in decreasing light.
Referee Declan McClarnon from Naomh Una handled the game in an efficient manner.
Two first half goals from the south siders meant the half time score of 2:5 to 0.1 gave a mountain to climb for the hosts.
A strong second half display when some of the u17’s substitutes bolstered the ranks of the home side kept the pressure on the visitors.
Jack toner and JJ Higgins both netted from play in the first 20 minutes, Aodhan mc Nicholl converted from the edge of the D following a good passage of play from Naomh Brid
And a steady stream of scorers from Brian McGurk free James Blaney free and midfielder Conor Logue gave the Musgrave Park a strong first half lead.
Lorcan Phillips and Barra Burns lead a revitalised St. Pauls side in the second half and despite closing the gap in the fading light, the first half margin was just too big to overcome.
Both teams ran their benches to get fresh legs on but the two early goals were to prove conclusive as conditions deteriorated in the rain.
The final score of 2:6 to 0:6 reflected a strong second half display from the hoops and a cause for concern for the visiting Musgrave park men, who could only manage 1 point in the second 30 minutes.
