Antrim Senior Reserve Hurling Cup

Portaferry 2-13 Ballycran 0-8

Portaferry won the Antrim Senior Reserve Hurling Cup when they beat Ards neighbours Ballycran in Tuesday evening’s final at the Dub. Leading by 2-7 to 0-6 at half time Portaferry pushed on to add six more points in the second half to just two in return from Ballycran to win the title for the first time.

Noah Rodgers gave Portafery and early lead, and though Ballycran came back with a pointed free from Paul Miskimmin, Conon O’Neill soon had the Ports back in front. A goal on eighth minutes from corner forward Callum O’Neill gave them a decisive edge and they pushed on to add points through Aaron O’Prey, Callum O’Neill (2) and Noah Rodgers.

Miskimmin, Ethan Boyle and James Coyle came back with points for Ballycran but a goal nearing the end of the first half by Noah Rodgers gave Portaferry a seven point lead at the interval. (2-7 to 0-6)

Rodgers had the first point of the second half to stretch the Portaferry lead to eight, and while James Coyle pulled one back for the black and ambers Conor Fay and Callum O’Neill stretched the lead even further. Ethan Bell sent one over one from play but Portaferry were in full control by this stage and late points from Conor Fay and Neill Fitsimons wrapped it all up and the cup was on its way to St Patrick’s Park for the first time.
