ACFL Division 2
Glenavy 2-11 Dunloy 0-8
St. Joseph’s Glenavy find themselves amongst the early season pacesetters in Division 2 following Sunday’s win over Cuchullian’s Dunloy at Chapel Hill on Sunday.
It was last year’s Senior Championship finalists Dunloy, without half of that team it has to be said, who were first off the mark with a point from Barry McCloskey but the home side were soon in control through points from Liam Henry, Odhran Arthurs and Ciaran Looney and a good goal from Ruairi Forester after 11 minutes.

Anthony Smith pulled one back for the visitors and he would prove to be Dunloy’s most proficient forward as he added two more before the break but Liam Henry 0-2 and Ciaran Looney replied at the other end to leave the half time score 1-6 to 0-5 in favour of St. Joseph’s.
Kevin McQuillan got Dunloy’s final point of the half but the visitors looked like they would have to step it up in the second half if they were to win this one.
Instead it was Glenavy who continued to call the shots on the restart as they dominated the third quarter with Liam Henry from a free, Ciaran Looney and Paddy Gallager pushing them seven ahead by the 14th minute.
Anthony Smith finally got the Cuchullian’s going again when he pointed a 16th minute free but Liam Henry replied from a similar effort immediately for the home side.
Ciaran Looney added another fine effort as St. Joseph’s continued to enjoy the upper hand but Dunloy finished strongly and Ryan McFarlane and Kevin McQuillan pointed to give them a glimmer of hope.

Glenavy then had to rely on keeper Stephen Daly who pulled off his second great save of the evening before striking back with a vengeance as Eoin Henry finished an excellent move with his side’s second goal with time almost up.
A good win for St. Joseph’s and following last weekend’s win away to Sarsfield’s they could be amongst the contenders for honours come the end of the season if they can maintain this fine vein of form.
