Antrim under 16 Hurling League – Division 1

Gort na Móna 1-15 Cushendall 4-23

Cushendall travelled to Gornt na Móna on Tuesday evening and came away emphatic winners, a result which moves them to the top of the league table with a game in hand.

The Ruairis started strongly with two goals, the first from Nicholas McLaughlin and the second from Conlaodh McNaughton, while the Gorts opened their account with a pointed free by full back Nathan McKenna. Two more points from Nicholas McLaughlin and one from Shane McQuillan put them 2-03 to 0-01 ahead after nine minutes, but Gornt na Móna hit back with two points from Daire Keenan and Aodhan O’Hanlon to cut the gap to nine.

Cushendall were on top though and they maintained a high scoring rate for the remainder of the first half, adding a further 2-6, the goals again coming from McLaughlin and McNaughton to lead by 4-11 to 0-09 at the interval, the Gorts three late points coming from Nathan McKenna.

The visitors added five unanswered points at the start of the second half, but a Brian McCusker goal lifted Gornt na Móna spirits and they had their best spell of the game, tagging on three points through Nathan McKenna and two through Daire Keenan. However Cushendall were in dominant form and they picked off some top class scores in the run-in to win convincingly in the end and maintain their 100% league record.
