Cushendall Camogs book Feis final spot against Dunloy

Feis Cup – Senior Camogie semi-final

Cushendall 3-15 Ballycastle 4-8

Cushendall set up a meeting with Dunloy in the final of the Senior Camogie Cup at Feis na nGleann when they beat Ballycastle on Tuesday evening at Middle Park, Cushendall. Trailing by two points at half time Cushendall appeared to be in a spot of bother when they fell seven behind early in the second half, but they showed great character to bounce back, hitting 2-6 in the final quarter to win in the end by four.

With a strong cold wind behind them in the first half Ballycastle held the upper hand and three points from Ellen McIntosh and one from her sister Fay put them 0-4 to 0-1 ahead, the Cushendall point coming from Brogan Abram. A Laura McMullan point closed the gap to two for the home side but an Aoife McCaughan goal got the visitors back in front and they went on to lead by 2-5 to 1-5 at half time.

Ballycastle’s advantage didn’t look to be enough when they turned to play against the breeze in the second half, but they pushed on after the break and a goal from Fay McIntosh and two points from Nuala Devlin and Ellen McIntosh stretched the lead to seven.

Cushendall bounced back after that and with right half forward Kady McNeill leading the line they started to fight their way back into contention as points from Orlaith McCurry, and Eva McNeill (2) cut the gap back to four. A goal from Kady McNeill cut the gap back to one on 45 minutes and they hit the front again when McNeill got her second goal in quick succession. Ballycastle substitute Graine Hunter pulled a goal back to get her team in front once again, but Cushendall were in full flow once again and they hit the last five points of the game through Kady McNeill, Brogan Abram (2) and Cara O’Boyle and to seal a final place against Dunloy later this month at Feis na nGleann.
