St Gall’s power past Glenavy in Senior Championship

Glenavy 1-07 St Gall’s 4-12

St Gall’s produced a strong attacking performance to secure a convincing 14-point victory over Glenavy in the Antrim LGFA Senior Football Championship.

Nicole Pollock gave the visitors the perfect start, landing two points from play inside the opening four minutes. Glenavy responded through Eibhlin Morgan, who converted a free before adding an excellent point from play to bring the sides level.

St Gall’s struck the opening goal after ten minutes when a dangerous ball played across the Glenavy square was palmed into the net by Alex Burns. Burns followed that with an excellent individual point under heavy pressure before Erin Stewart added another fine score.

Glenavy goalkeeper Cassie Shannon then produced a brilliant double save to prevent St Gall’s from extending their advantage. Kiera McAllister replied with a point for the home side, but St Gall’s finished the half strongly when Isabelle McGirr found the net on the half-hour mark.

Pollock continued her impressive display after the interval, kicking two more points during the opening ten minutes of the second half. Siobhán McGirr responded with a good point from play for Glenavy, but a defensive mistake at the opposite end was punished by Niamh McAllister, who fired home St Gall’s third goal.

Natasha O’Neill and Siobhán McGirr kept Glenavy battling with further points, but Pollock effectively settled the contest when she struck St Gall’s fourth goal after 15 minutes.

Anna Rice replied with a point for the visitors, while another score from Siobhán McGirr completed a productive spell for Glenavy. Their persistence was rewarded when Eibhlin Morgan found the net with just under ten minutes remaining.

St Gall’s, however, finished the game impressively. Niamh McAllister added a point before Jenny Browning landed two excellent scores, the second coming at the end of a powerful solo run from deep inside her own half. Burns also converted a late free as the visitors closed out a comprehensive 4-12 to 1-07 victory.

Pollock was central to the St Gall’s success, contributing a goal and several points, while Burns, McGirr and McAllister also found the net. Glenavy continued to compete until the final whistle, with Morgan and McGirr providing the majority of their attacking threat.
