Creggan and Gort na Móna, battled it out in fine sunshine at Enright Park in Belfast on Sunday to the delight of a larger crowd than you would have expected.

The faithful were treated to a fine display of hurling, with Creggan taking the first three points without reply. Frustration on the Gort na Móna players faces soon turned to determination and they began to make inroads into the Creggan back line, resulting in them winning and converting several frees. By the end of the first third, both sides were level and 4 points apiece.

The first major of the game came with 20 minutes gone on the clock, McCann and Small had only one fullback to beat and both could have taken the glory. Small took the pass then gave a one-two back to McCann for him to drive it home, giving the keeper no chance.

At the short whistle, two goals separated the teams. It was Creggan 2.06 Gort na Móna 0.06, however it was the Gorts who came out after the break with a spring in their steps and quickly narrowed the gap to 4 points, but from there on in it was Creggans game and any neutrals present would have agreed.

Creggan added a few points to open a comfortable gap and were able to make a few substitutions as they were confident that they could respond to the Gort na Móna determination. The final 15 minutes was played out with both teams exchanging points but a Creggan win was in little doubt from then on in.
