PRO’s we need your help

Man at work! our reporter Kevin Herron takes notes at a game last week.

As we look forward to week 3 of the All County Hurling leagues this weekend we again appeal to club PRO’S or indeed individuals from clubs who fancy giving their club the much needed oxygen of publicity that helps sell it to potential fans and members.

We at the saffron Gael have made a massive effort to cover every game played in the All County leagues and with the help of PRO’s at most clubs we have achieved better than 90% and while 100% seems unlikely we never the less will continue to aim for that figure.

Here’s my suggestion. If you are at your club’s game this weekend and there is no reporter or photographer there from the Saffron Gael here’s how you can ensure that your club’s game is covered on our website.

  • Ask the referee to let you photograph both team sheets with your phone.
  • Write down each score and scorer as it comes and add an approximate time. (if you don’t know the name of the scorer write down his number)
  • Keep a note of the half time score and full time score.
  • Make a comment on major scores (goals), who scored and who set it up etc.
  • If you don’t have time to write a report simply sends us the above facts with the team-sheets and we will write the report ourselves.

It really isn’t difficult and when you see it published it will give you a lot of satisfaction and help promote your club.

Individual games are being read by more than 1000 people on some occasions and every game has a healthy readership. For example St. Mary’s Rasharkin v Ahoghill in division 3 and Carey v Rasharkin in the same division on consecutive weeks have attracted around 1200 visits despite these being short reports from Rasharkin’s PRO.

A big thank you to the club PRO’S who send us reports every week. We are indebted to you and your club should be indebted to you for the excellent job you do on their behalf.

Finally if your team was playing in one of the games that didn’t appear last week then get onto your club’s PRO or better still offer you service to take notes and forward them to us asap after the game but if we don’t get them on the day of the game we still want them.

Send your reports-notes to:
