The All Saints GAC Saints & Slimmers programme has community at heart and this was very much in evidence during this year’s programme. Late last Summer the All Saints Club lost a much loved friend and juvenile coach, Orlaith O’Kane. In consultation with Orlaith’s husband Micky and family members it was agreed that this year’s Saints & Slimmers charitable efforts should be directed towards a charity of their choice.
During her illness Orlaith spent some time in the Macmillan Cancer Support Unit at Antrim Hospital. While there Orlaith experienced the wonderful care and attention the Unit is renowned for and therefore supporting their work was a natural choice for the family.
On Saturday 2nd February Saints and Slimmers team members undertook a 9 hour Spin Cycle Spinathon at the Ballymena Harmony Hub in the centre of town. Thanks to the generosity of the participants, their families and the Ballymena public a grand total of £5240 was raised – a fitting way to pay tribute to Orlaith’s legacy and provide support for those families who find themselves in a similar situation in the future
The funds were presented to Allison Foster from the Macmillan Unit today on behalf of the All Saints Club by Club Chairman, Jim Brady, Orlaith’s husband Micky and her daughters Anna and Meabh.
